History

Jumble Shop™ is named after a famous New York City bar that was opened by Frances Russell and Winifred Tucker. First located at 21 West 8th Street from 1922-1925, and in 1926 it was moved across the street to 28 West 8th, with an entrance at 176 MacDougal Street, near Washington Square Park.  During the 1930’s and 40’s the establishment was frequented by the titans of the art world including Stuart Davis, John Graham, Willem de Kooning, Lee Krasner, Jackson Pollock, Arshile Gorky, and a decade before them, the writer Thomas Wolfe.  Located just down the street from the original Whitney Museum, Jumble Shop also hosted monthly art shows.  We certainly would have loved to be there!

Today

Founded in 2010 by James Godman, Jumble Shop™ is an apparel brand based in Bushwick, Brooklyn USA, where thoughtful designs and illustrations come to life.  James started out painting portraits on t-shirts at a shop in a suburban Chicago mall during his high school years, and today he paints, makes photographs, and directs films.
